USC Neuro Scholars is a competitive virtual summer program that enables students to review scientific literature, engage in discussions with highly experienced professors, and pursue publication opportunities. Any high schooler who is passionate about neuroscience is welcome to join!
What We Do
At USC Neuro Scholars, students will have the opportunity to read selected scientific articles, engage in deep discussions on the subject with qualified neuroscience professors and peers, and work on a guided capstone research project with provided resources.
A Tentative Calendar for the Program
March: Applications open
April: Applications close
June-July: Weekly meetings with discussions over the assigned research papers
August-September: Capstone project guidance and completion
September-November: Capstone project symposium and mini-publications

Criteria Information:
- Must be in high school for the 2027-2028 school year
- International Students are more than welcome to apply
- No coursework prerequisites are needed

MISSION
Research papers remain vital in communicating ideas and knowledge necessary in advancing the field of any type of science. However, papers can be complex, long, and can include jargon unfamiliar to many high school students. The purpose of the USC Neuro Scholars summer program is to shatter that unfamiliarity by explaining intricate neuroscience topics and breaking down dense research papers. Our weekly meetings allow students to discuss neuroscience literature in a low-pressure environment with expert USC neuroscientists and professors. We strive to empower students with the analytical skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and contribute to the field of neuroscience effectively.
